GLOBAL SUMMIT


The Global Alzheimer’s Research Summit will be held in Madrid, 22nd-23rd September, 2011. The latest advances in research on Alzheimer’s will be presented. The conference programme will be divided into two main areas:

Basic and clinical research, present and future of Alzheimer's research, aimed at professionals and researchers in this field, and health and social care research, aimed at professionals in this field, in addition to members of the general public interested in learning more about Alzheimer’s disease, including relatives, those affected by Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases, caregivers and national and international students.

    • Present and future of Alzheimer's research is being presented in association with Nature Medicine in coordination with Dr. Jesús Ávila. The programme will bring together leaders in the field to present a comprehensive, authoritative overview of the state of play in Alzheimer's disease - from the lab bench to the clinic. The programme will include sessions on molecular mechanisms responsible for disease onset and progression, the genetic basis of Alzheimer disease, the discovery of biomarkers to aid early diagnosis, and the development of new therapies from the perspective of the pharmaceutical industry.

      This programme is aimed exclusively at professionals from the field and presentations will be entirely in English.

    • Research initiatives promoted by national and international associations will be presented. This area will cover new non-pharmacological treatments, the latest technologies applied to dependence, the new methodology, and new buildings and treatment centres. The International Network for the Exchange of Knowledge and Good Practice will be created as a result of contact between the world’s most prestigious institutions, centres and experts.

      The following organisations will be jointly responsible for coordination of the programme in this area: Spanish Federation of Relatives of Alzheimer’s Patients (CEAFA) and the State Reference Centre for the Care of Persons with Alzheimer’s Disease and other Dementias, of the Ministry of Health and Social Policy (CRE Alzheimer).
